Ahead of your exam

Ensure you have performed the required system checks as soon as you receive your link from The Retrofit Academy and well in advance of your exam date. If there are any issues please contact us as soon as possible.

IMPORTANT!

Please note that the exam you are sitting is for an OFQUAL regulated qualification and as such is a formal, remotely invigilated exam (this is called proctoring). The guidance below must be followed to ensure your exam as classed as a valid attempt and not voided.

On the day of your exam

You will need to ensure the following:

  1. You have the correct ID ready. You will need photographic ID, such as a Passport or Driving Licence.
  2. Your working space is clear and tidy. Make sure you remove any electrical devices (e.g mobile phones, laptops, smart watches and interactive devices such as Alexa). Make sure there are no notebooks in the room and remove any posters from the walls.
  3. The room you are taking your exam in is quiet. Noises such as music or television are not permitted.

During your exam

When you first log in you will be asked to show your ID and complete a scan of the room in which you will be sitting your exam to ensure that it meets exam conditions.

You must engage with the exam at all times. This means you must focus on the screen. If you look away from the screen, the proctoring system will flag that you might have been looking at something to help you with the exam. This will cause your result to be void.

You must keep your eyes on the screen. Moving your head or your eyes away from the screen could make your result void.

You must remain in view at all times. This includes your whole face and mouth.

You must share your screen at all times.

You must follow this guidance to avoid your exam being classed as invalid. An invalid exam, even if you pass, will mean that you will not receive your certificate and will have to resit the test.

What could void your exam

This is an official, regulated exam, therefore the same rules apply as if you were in an exam room with an invigilator.

The following things could invalidate your exam:

  1. Unauthorised objects in the room or on your desk:
    • These include, but are not limited to:  mobile phones, laptops, smart watches, interactive devices (such as Alexa), notebooks, textbooks, posters or post it notes on the walls and pieces of paper that could look like notes.
  2. Looking away from the screen:
    • This includes looking away from the screen by moving your head, left, right, up or down, but also includes looking away by using your eyes only. Don't worry, we will know if you are just blinking or stretching your neck, but anything more than this could invalidate your result.
  3. Not being visible to the camera:
    • If the camera can't see you for more than a few seconds, this will invalidate your result. We must be able to see your whole face.
  4. Communicating with other people:
    • There must be no communication with anyone else. during the exam. It is advised that you are in a room on your own during the test. Other people must not look at your screen during your exam.

You must follow this guidance to avoid your exam being classed as invalid. An invalid exam, even if you pass, will mean that you will not receive your certificate and will have to resit the test.

We wish you the best of luck with your exam!
