Overview of the courses and how to apply for a course?

Eligibility for some of our courses varies depending on your existing qualifications and if you have the necessary experience required. To ensure that participants are well-prepared for the training, certain criteria must be met. Please refer to the table below to help you understand the eligibility criteria for each course.

Level 2 Award External Wall Insulation & Finishes

Open to anyone one who is 18 years of age.

Level 2 Award in 

Understanding Domestic Retrofit

Open to anyone one who is 16 years of age.

Although if you have a background in energy efficiency or construction you may find you can complete the course in less time than the guideline of 21 hours.

Level 3 Award Retrofit Advisor

You must be over the age of 18 and have access to a computer with a reliable internet connection.  

If you have a background in customer experience this is desirable.

Level 3 Award Energy Efficiency for older and Traditional Buildings

You must be over the age of 18 and have access to a computer with a reliable internet connection.

Level 4 Award in Domestic Retrofit Assessment

The minimum requirement for all methods of study is a Level 3 Certificate Domestic Energy Assessor qualification.

Level 5 Diploma in Retrofit Coordination & Risk Assessment

You must already hold 12 Level 3 credits* in a built environment subject


You must have  built environment professional competencies as defined by PAS 2035 (e.g. project management, risk assessment, contract administration, etc)


You must have a minimum of 2 years of experience working on retrofit, energy efficiency or construction projects - (as evidenced by a CV or letter of endorsement from your employer)


Chartered architectural technologist (MCIAT or FCIAT) registered by the Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists (CIAT)

An architect registered by the Architects Registration Board (ARB);

Professional member of the Chartered Institute of Building (MCIOB or FCIOB);

chartered building surveyor (MRICS or FRICS).

You must have 2 years’
post-qualification experience in architecture, surveying, or construction management.
